Three Big Changes for the 2016-2017 year will be with our Open Houses, Title 1 and Curriculum Night.

We are going to have a Kindergarten open house on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 5:00-6:00 p.m.  This is two days before Kindergarten students will start school.

We are combining Open House and Curriculum Night for grades first through fifth.   Open House/Curriculum/Title 1 night will be September 22, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. All families K-5 are invited to attend the Curriculum and Title 1 presentation.  This change was made because teachers have a shorter time to prepare their classrooms for students and work on the GLAD and Guided Math Units.

We know that families want to bring in their school supplies early; so, on Thursday, August 25, from 8:00 to 4:00 you may bring in supplies for your student(s). Please know during this time Dowling staff will be in Professional Development training.

We have also added a Curriculum component for the classroom teachers to share with families.  During the September 22nd Open House, we will have three - 30 minute presentations in the Auditorium. These presentations will provide parents an overview of the basics of Guided Math, GLAD and Title 1.  The times for the presentations will be from 5:00-5:30 p.m.; 5:40-6:10 p.m. and 6:20-6:50 p.m.  In between the presentations, families will visit the classroom and get more detailed curriculum information based on the grade level of your student(s).  At the end of the Open House, we will have feed back sheets for families to fill out, letting us know what went well and any suggestions for change.

The student classroom assignments will be mailed out the week of August 8, 2016.

We are looking for some great people to fill our Reading Corps and Math Corps positions here at Dowling. Many tutors have recently graduated from college or high school, and some are looking to explore a career in education or reenter the workforce, while some are looking to give back to their community in retirement. Did you know that in addition to getting to work with us and our students, tutors also receive a biweekly living stipend, extensive training, an education award to use for college or paying off student loans (if they're 55+ they can transfer the award to a child, a grandchild, or a foster child), forbearance on eligible student loans, and potentially even student debt interest repayment? Full-time tutors even qualify for health coverage and potentially child care assistance! Click on the links below for more information.
