NEWS AND UPDATES:
DOWLING SILENT AUCTION HELP
For the last several years, Dowling School has hosted a Silent Auction. The auction has been an evening of fun, food, drinks and shopping that has two goals: 1. to provide an adults only fun and festive social event for parents and staff to foster friendships and build community, school involvement and morale, and 2. to raise money for the teachers, kids, and the school. Each year the auction raises about $10,000 all of which goes directly to the teachers and kids in the form of: field trips, classroom projects and equipment. This year the IDEAL date would be Friday November 11, 2016. Vine Arts Center, the venue we've used for the past few years, is not available on that date. We've created a 7 question survey to help us figure out how to proceed with this event. Help us by taking the short survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/N6H3DBB If you would like to join the silent auction team - we want you. We need you to help us design, plan, and host the event. I can promise this committee has fun and you'll feel better connected to your child's school community and meet new people if you get involved in this committee. Please contact Julie Colby at firstname.lastname@example.org

NEW COMMUNITY ED SUMMER PROGRAM:
How do we help our K-5 youth prevent Summer Slide? Provide them with an engaging opportunity to support learned skills, of course! Introducing CAHOOTS, a self-paced correspondence program through Minneapolis Community Ed. Select a workbook in Language Arts, Math, or both. Students complete weekly lessons at home, and reflect on their learning by exchanging post cards with their Summer Cahoots Buddy. Participants on track to complete 8 lessons by July 29th will be invited on a field trip. Register by clicking on the CAHOOTS sidebar at https://minneapolis.thatscommunityed.com/ Questions? Email Heidi.Gegax@mpls.k12.mn.us or call 612.668.3809.
Our students continue to shine at our awards ceremonies each month. Students earn awards from their teachers, lunchroom staff and bus drivers for following the rules, staying safe, being a kind and helpful friend and being an all around great Dowling student!
