Michael Dowling School, Urban Environmental Magnet is a K-5 environmental magnet school in the Minneapolis Public School District. We are an E-STEAM school (environmental, science, technology, engineering, arts and math) with a GLAD philosophy. Our school day is from 8:40 AM - 3:10 PM. Our student population consists of approximately 500 students. Our building principal is Dr. Lloyd Winfield. Join us this Friday, December 2nd for our annual Dowling Movie Night! We will start with a pizza dinner from 5:30 - 6:00 pm in our cafeteria, pizza is $2 a slice, followed by the movie from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Parents are invited to join our PTO for a parent connection meeting from 6:30 - 7:30 in the media center. This is a family event for you to enjoy with your student, parents must stay for dinner and the movie - you may join the meeting while your student is watching the movie. Please join us for this fun family time! THE MOVIE WILL BE FINDING DORY!

We are in need of some clothing donations for our health office and winter weather wear. Our nurses office is looking for pants for grades K-5 - please send elastic waist pants for boys or girls (sweatpants, leggins, elastic waist jeans) to be used in case of emergencies.

We are also looking for some winter gear to have available for students to borrow in case they have forgotten anything. I am needing gloves in all sizes and boots in all sizes. I have plenty of coats, hats and snow pants. If you are able to contribute, please send your donations to the main office.

WE HAVE TOURS AVAILABLE STARTING ON NOVEMBER 22nd at 9 AM. Please see the School Tours section in the left hand column for details. You do not need to make a reservation. We do not do individual tours, we have many families touring Dowling during the months of November, December and January, group tours are the best way to accomodate all of our prospective families with the least amount of distruption to the classroom. Thank you for your understanding

The Readathon will be here before you know it! We have some pre-planning going on and we need your help. We are having a logo contest again this year. Please encourage your student to submit original cat inspired artwork that is based on the Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel books. A box has been placed outside of the main office for submissions. If we receive over 100 entries, Dr. Winfield will ride a tricycle through an obstacle course while singing a song carrying a stuffed cat on his lap at the kick off rally! The deadline for submissions is Monday, December 12th.
