WINTER WEATHER GUIDELINES:

With snow here to stay this year, we have revised our winter weather guidelines to keep staff and families informed about how we decide whether to close school.

MPS will likely cancel classes if the National Weather Service predicts that the wind chill will be -35°F (-37°C) or colder at 6:30 a.m. MPS will consider canceling classes if the National Weather Service predicts that more than 6 inches of snow will fall in 12 hours or more than 8 inches of snow will fall in 24 hours. Every winter storm is different, so it is possible that classes will still be held even if wind chill or snowfall reaches these limits.

Whenever possible, the decision to close school will be made by 6 p.m. the night before or no later than 5:30 a.m. the day of the school closing.  Dowling will send out a robo call, along with the district informing families of any changes or closures. The closure will also be posted on the MPS website, on MPS social media and on local news, along with the Dowling Website and Facebook page.

SHRINE CIRCUS TICKETS:  We have 10 child and 10 adult tickets w/purchase of additional ticket to the Shrine Circus this weekend. Contact Val at valerie.ausland@mpls.k12.mn.us to recieve a ticket.

LOOKING FOR A HOME FOR THAT OUTGROWN/UNUSED WINTER GEAR? We really need small boots (K-2) and small/medium snow pants (K - 2nd - 3rd), also nylon gloves/mittens in all sizes!

We still are in need of snow pants, coats, boots, gloves and hats for students in every classroom! Our goal is to have a bin in all classrooms that have a few of each of these items for recess and outside time. Please bring items to the main office as soon as possible so we can put these together for our classrooms. This is a great chance to get rid of all that gear that is taking up space in your closets! We appreciate your help in this effort to provide outdoor play for all of our students.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS!

The Phillips Eye screening is coming up on Monday, December 1st from 9:00 - 2:45. Our nursing staff needs one volunteer at a time, one from 9:00 to 12:00 and one from 12:00 - 2:45. You will be escorting students to and from the screening. Please contact Roxanne Truen at roxanne.truen@mpls.k12.mn.us to volunteer.

LOOKING FOR SPIDER PLANT SPROUTS!

If you have a sprouting spider plant at home, Tracy Young would sure appreciate getting that little baby part for some lessons on plant propagation. Break it off, wrap it in a saturated paper towel, and slip it into a plastic bag for me. You can deposit the sprouts in my mailbox in the office. We'll even repot your overgrown spider parent for you! You can bring those plants directly to the Ag Building entryway or the main office.
