Dowling Urban Environmental Learning Center is a K-5 environmental magnet school in the 

 

Minneapolis Public School District.

 

Our school day is from 8:40 AM to 3:10 PM.

 

Our student population consists of approximately 530 students.

LOST AND FOUND:                                                                                                     

The lost and found has grown quite large yet again! Please check to see if you have lost any gloves, hats, coats, snowpants, lunchboxes, boots or shoes etc..... If so, please come in to look through the Lost and Found outside of the office. We will be cleaning it out before spring break and all remaining items will be donated to charity.

FRIDAY: Wear your Dowling gear

 

MONDAY: 70's and 80's Day

 

TUESDAY: Kids Teach Day - *you must have permission from your teacher* If you are an expert on a topic, you must present a 5 - 10 minute lesson plan to your teacher no later than Monday for approval. Some classes may not be participating in this day as they do this as a project later in the year.

 

WEDNESDAY: Wacky Mismatch Day

 

THURSDAY: Pajama Day - Enjoy the last day before spring break in your pj's!

April 13 - 24: Grades 3-5 MCA Reading Test

 

April 27 - May 8: Grades 3-5 MCA Math Test

 

May 11 - 15: Grade 5 MCA Science Test

 

Our school is participating in the 6th Annual Neighborhood Forest program, whose aim is to provide free trees to kids to plant on Earth Day.  We endorse this project and are excited to give kids a way to beautify and green our communities.  

 
Fill out the following online registration form by April 6th and receive a free tree (6-12 inches in size) during Earth Week (April 20-27). Planting instructions and species information will be emailed a few days prior to the trees arriving. They will also have paper birch seedlings available.

2015 READ-A-THON SUCCESS

 

We exceeded our 200,000 minute goal by reading a total of 967,859 minutes! The total money earned by the school was $26,903.00. Way to go Dowling students on a successful Read-a-Thon!

ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS:

 

Second grade students from Mrs. Hede's room are learning about maple syrup this week. They assisted Mrs. Young in tapping some trees out in the front yard and have tasted the fresh sap. They are learning the entire process of sap to syrup this week.
