Beverly Tavernier, ELL and collaborative teacher.

I started at Dowling in 2005.
I have been a Minneapolis Public Schools teacher since 1996, teaching at Sanford, Willard, Bryn Mawr and  now Dowling.
I have a B.A. degree from North Park College in Chicago and a Master's degree from Bethel University in St. Paul. I taught in the Phillipines for two years with the Peace Corps.
I am licensed to teach Elementary grades 1-5 and ELL K-12.
I teach the ELL students in all grades.
I enjoy teaching reading through social studies and science as well as literature.
I push the students to read at home at their independent reading level. In class we work at their instructional level, which is more challenging for them.
I spent two weeks last summer at an environmental schoolyard ecology class at the University of Minnesota and I am trying to integrate outdoor environmental activities with our reading and writing. We are watching the changing seasons and documenting it in our journals with writing and drawing.
