Welcome to Kindergarten!
Yippee! The big day is finally here! You're five years old and on your way to kindergarten! Room 106 will be your home for the year. School is cool and so are you!
I started my life in kindergarten in 1976! I graduated from Augsurg College with a double major in Elementary Education and Scandinavian Area Studies. I received my Master's degree from the University of Minnesota in Early Childhood Education. In 2000, I became nationally board certified as an Early Childhood Generalist. I love to learn and love to teach!
I am crazy about three things: hearts, kids and books! I strive to create a warm and cozy environment for my students. My classroom is colorful and a happy place to be. Most of my teaching has been on the Northside of Minneapolis. I taught at North Star School for 27 years. When the school was scheduled to close in 2006 , I moved to Dowling School. I tell all my friends that I died and went to heaven at Dowling! The students are wonderful! The parents are wonderful! The staff is wonderful! It's a wonderful place to learn.
I believe that children learn by doing. I also believe that partnering with parents is the best way to increase student achievement. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer in my classroom.
It's also important for parents to keep informed of the learning going on each week. In the fall, I schedule a Home Visit with each family to go over the expectations for the year and set learning goals for each child. I send home weekly newsletters informing parents what is happening at school with tips on how they can help at home. Expect great things this year!
