Lee Schwanke - Art

Dear Families,

My name is Lee Schwanke. The children know me as "Mr. Lee." I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Minnesota State University. I also have a Master of Arts degree from Saint Mary's University.  I am one of a few Nationally Board Certified Art Teachers in the state. Learn more about the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards at  www. nbpts.org .I have also been honored with the Jaehny Award from VSArts for promoting Arts access for people with disabilities.

During the summer I teach a graduate course through the University of Minnesota, which focuses on instructing art teachers on adapting, augmenting and altering visual art curriculum for students with special needs. I have been teaching at Dowling for over 18 years and have watched my own son grow here (he is a student at South High School now). I love this school and find my work here fulfilling and rewarding--I am confident your children will, too.

All of the students here are part of an exciting visual arts program. Students are presented with content and concepts following the scope and sequence outlined in SRA's Art Connections curriculum. You can find the curriculum on the web at www.sraonline.com (click on Fine Arts). I have also found textbooks on eBay at low prices--a great option for helping you tutor at home and follow what we are studying here.
