I have been teaching at Dowling Environmental Education Elementary School since 1998. I received my Undergraduate Degree at Concordia University, St. Paul in 1991. I am licensed to teach in grades 1 - 6. I received my Masters in Teaching Degree from St. Thomas University. I have taught in the Minneapolis School District my entire career. I enjoy the diversity and innovation that the Minneapolis School District offers.
Teaching at Dowling Elementary is a real joy for me. I like the family feel of the school. The Dowling families and students are the best! Families are really involved here at Dowling and it's a pleasure working with them. The high support of the parents is a real plus as they help out in many capactities at Dowling. We have an enthusiastic and knowledgable staff who have committed themselves to Dowling excellence. It is a wonderful environment to work in.
I am currently Dowling's Title 1 teacher. Title 1 is a federally funded program which is designed to provide support to students who are performing below grade level in reading and/or math. The goal is to emphasize high academic standards in an effort to help students succeed in the regular classroom and reach grade level performance. I teach small groups of students seven for 30 minute periods 5 days a week. In my classroom I strive for an atmosphere that is warm, caring, respectful and motivating so all students can learn. All my lessons teach to the Common Core Standards. I have high expectations for every student. Classroom expectations for all Dowling students are the four B's: Be Respectful, Be Responsibe, Be Safe, and Be Your Best. If students come "ready to learn" they will make gains. One of the joys of teaching is to see the progress the students make during the year.
