The MPS paint department will start applying paint to the entrance canopy on the north side of Dowling sometime tomorrow. Our painters are trained in safe work practices to protect themselves and others. We are also accustomed to working  in busy schools -- our goal is to cause the least amount of disruption to the staff, students and parents at Dowling. We are in the process of creating a covered entrance and cordoning off areas where tools, materials and scaffold are stacked.
The canopy has been cleaned and we are using a surface tolerant coating to eliminate the need for loud or disruptive prep work;  this is a high performance water-based paint from PPG that will eliminate the need for mechanical grinding or sanding. As each tarp-enclosed area is painted the area below will be thoroughly vacuumed and washed  before moving to the next area. Because we are using a L.E.E.D. approved,  water-based coating while working outdoors in isolated areas, there will be no hazardous paint fumes entering the building. We estimate that this project will be completed in less than two weeks.
