Third Grade Newsletter

Room 108

December 13, 2017

Reading/ Writing Workshop:  We continued with our animal adaptations unit. The areas we focused on included; using text evidence to make inferences, recounting the key details of a text and explaining how they support the main idea, comparing and contrasting two texts on the same topic, gathering details, using pronouns, and writing an informative report. We will be publishing our reports over the next few weeks.

Math: We are completing our fourth unit, which focused on multiplication and area. The class worked on determining the area of a rectangle by using tiles to cover a figure, drawing square units, and multiplying the length of adjacent sides. They also broke apart larger rectangles to create two smaller multiplication problems. This is a skill we will continue to develop as we move into more two-digit multiplication problems.

Social Studies: We continued with our study of Ancient Rome. We explored religion and mythology and daily life in Ancient Rome. Most of our time has spent learning about the city of Pompeii and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius because the city has provided so much information about daily life. We are creating our own mosaics as we continue to read about food, clothing, housing, military, education, architecture, and sporting events.
