Reading/ Writing Workshop:  We began unit 5 – Advancements in Technology. The areas we focused on included recounting the key story details, determining the main idea, using content clues to define vocabulary, comparing and contrasting two texts on the same subject, identifying and describing connections, and using illustrations to gain information. We also began working on opinion essays about technology that includes evidence to support the opinion.

Math: We began our unit on fractions. The areas we focused on included comparing and ordering fractions and naming fractions with words and symbols. WOOT math reviews and extends on the concepts we are working on in this unit. Please feel free to let your child work on it at home.

Science: We began our new science unit Matter and Energywith Investigation 1: Energy. This investigation focused on energy sources, converting energy, and transferring energy. We began by recording and sharing things we knew about energy and questions we had. We read stories and articles, conducted 4 investigations, and wrote about energy. Please take a moment to ask your child what he/she has learned about energy.
