Reading/ Writing Workshop:  We began unit 5 – Advancements in Technology. The areas we focused on included recounting the key story details, determining the main idea, using content clues to define vocabulary, comparing and contrasting two texts on the same subject, identifying and describing connections, and using illustrations to gain information. We also began working on opinion essays about technology that includes evidence to support the opinion.

Math: We began our unit on fractions. The areas we focused on included comparing and ordering fractions, naming fractions with words and symbols, drawing representations of fractions, solving real- world problems using fractions, and identifying and showing equivalent fractions. For homework during this unit I would like students to use the WOOT math program 45 minutes a week if they have access to the internet. I will not be sending hard copies of math homework home for this unit.

Social Studies: We have been focusing on the three branches of the federal government. Each person made a tree to represent the three branches. The trees include facts about the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.
