Letter from Superintendent
Wednesday, June 14, 2017 2:45 PM

Dear MPS Staff:

As the 2016-17 school year comes to an end, I want to thank you all for your dedication, commitment and hard work on behalf of the students and families of Minneapolis Public Schools. I also want to thank you for welcoming me as Superintendent one year ago.
Throughout this school year, I have been overwhelmed by the countless staff members who have offered their support, advice, historical knowledge and well wishes. We have experienced many successes this year. And even when we have faced challenges or differed on a particular issue, I have never doubted for one moment that the passion and rigor displayed is because the employees of MPS genuinely care about the success of all of our students. That is what makes this such a great place to be Superintendent.
In countless ways, each of you has made a positive difference for students and families this year. Please know I deeply appreciate your efforts and your commitment. Take time this summer to rest and re-charge. August will be here before we know it. And to those of you who are retiring this month after serving MPS for many years, I wish you the best. I hope you will head into the next chapter of your life assured that you have contributed greatly to the success of our district.
As you pause to reflect on the school year just completed, please don’t underestimate the value of the work you do. As John Dewey wrote, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” Thank you for making life better through education for the students and families of Minneapolis Public Schools.
