Reading/ Writing Workshop:  We completed unit 5 – Advancements in Technology. The areas we focused on included identifying and annotating key details, using key details to determine the main idea, asking and answering questions about the text to make connections, reading and recognizing the r-controlled syllable pattern in words, and using context clues to identify meanings of unfamiliar words. We also completed our opinion essays about technology that included evidence to support the opinion. We also began planning and creating inventions that will be on display in the lunchroom on March 15.

Math: We began our unit on fractions. The areas we focused on included comparing and ordering fractions, naming fractions with words and symbols, drawing representations of fractions, solving real- world problems using fractions, and identifying and showing equivalent fractions. WOOT math reviews and extends on the concepts we are working on in this unit. Please feel free to let your child work on it at home.

Science: We are continuing with our science unit Matter and Energywith Investigation 1: Energy. This investigation focused on energy sources, converting energy, and transferring energy. We began by recording and sharing things we knew about energy and questions we had. We read stories and articles, conducted 4 investigations, and wrote about energy. Please take a moment to ask your child what he/she has learned about energy.
