Megan Miller - Media

Dear Students, My name is Megan Miller (Ms. Miller) and I am the Media Specialist at Dowling Urban Environmental School. I love books, computers and kids--so being a Media Specialist is the perfect job for me. I’ve been working in the Minneapolis Public Schools since 1984. When I was your age, I lived on a farm with my family and went to an elementary school in New Richland, Minnesota. I had several cats, as well as a dog. I spent

most of my time playing outside. I also did a LOT of reading, especially books about Ramona by Beverly Cleary. Would you be surprised if I told you that I adored the school librarian, Mrs. King? Of course! Home computers and iPods were not available to buy in the 1960’s, but I had a very cool AM/FM radio that looked like this.   Technology has changed a lot since then!

This year I look forward to

teaching students how to use programs like iPhoto, Garageband, Comic LIfe, Google Docs and PowerPoint.  I recently completed a Minnesota Reading License at Hamline University, so I am especially interested in how students engage with books--how they predict, ask questions, look for connections, etc.  Click on the tulip link on the right to read recent news about the learning activities happening in the Media Center.
