Book Checkout from the Dowling School Media Center

Because reading is such a crucial skill, and because improvement comes with practice, the Dowling Media Center provides a wide variety of books for students to borrow for reading practice, information, and enjoyment. Your student’s class will visit the Media Center weekly for lessons and to select books. Encourage your child to spend time reading at home every day.

Students are responsible for handling books with care, since they are for everyone to share. Please keep books away from pets, food, and all liquids.  Any book damage should be reported to the library as soon as possible so we can attempt repairs. Library books may be kept for one week.  A book may be renewed (checked out again) if the student is not finished reading it.  If a book is overdue (late) students will not be able to check out another book until the overdue one is returned. Please read details of the district's policy regarding book checkout below.

Kindergarten and first grade students will be able to check out 1 book at a time.  Second, third, and fourth grade students will be able to check out 2 books at a time.  Fifth grade students can check out up to 3 books at a time.   Students can check out a book each day during Open Media time before school from 8:25—8:40 am.

If a book is lost, payment toward a replacement will be requested.  If your family plans to move from Dowling School, please return all books before moving.

Please feel free to contact me with specific questions or concerns about your child.  I look forward to helping your child find the joy in reading.
