Is Your Child Sick?
Monday, December 17, 2018 12:55 PM

Dear Dowling parents and guardians,

We’re entering that time of year when we see more illnesses, so I wanted to take a moment to review the policy about keeping students home from school due to illness.

  • VOMITING:  Your child MUST stay home for 24 hours after the last time they have vomited.  EVEN IF THEY FEEL BETTER OR EVEN IF YOU THINK THEY MAY HAVE VOMITED DUE TO SOMETHING OTHER THAN ILLNESS.

  • FEVER:  Your child MUST stay home until they are FEVER-FREE for 24 hours (without the use of Tylenol or ibuprofen to bring their fever down).  A fever is considered a temperature of 100 degrees or higher.

  • INFLUENZA-LIKE ILLNESS:  If your child has a fever with a cough and/or sore throat, your child MUST stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours and are feeling well enough to participate in school.  (If your child is home with influenza-like illness, please report this specific information to attendance so we can track it).

We sometimes have students returning to school earlier than these recommended times.  We know that student often feel better before 24 hours has passed and we know that sometimes students don’t want to miss school… However, in order to minimize the potentially rapid spread of illnesses, this policy must be followed.

Please remember to call Nicole in the office at 612-668-4432 to report all absences.
