Mélina Mangal—Library Media and Information Technology
Ms. Mangal Reading a Book

Welcome to the Media Center.

My name is Ms. Mangal, and I love being a Media Specialist!  I attended the University of St. Thomas, the Sorbonne, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  I started teaching in a middle school, but have worked primarly in elementary schools here in Minnesota and in North Carolina.

I love helping students and teachers find just the right resource, whether it's a great book, a nonfiction article, a website, or app.  I also love teaching students how to use technology, understand media, critically analyze information, and do research.  I enjoy researching as well, and use my experience as a researcher and writer of children's books to help students understand the process.

One of my favorite quotes is by Frederick Dougass:

“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”

In Media class, students look for and checkout books, learn about literature, technology, research, and media literacy.  Students also learn to code, evaluate websites, and use different platforms for presenting facts.

All students come to Media Class every six days for a lesson and for book checkout.  I also offer Open Library time between 8:25—8:40 every morning so that students can checkout a book or just read.  I enjoy helping students find the right book to inspire reading, and the right resource to satisfy their research needs.
