Mrs. PB's Class

Introduction

Hello Dowling families! My name is Valerie Peterson-Brandt, but I am more affectionately referred to as "Mrs. PB." I taught 4th grade in California from 2008 - 2019, and am thrilled to now be a part of this historic community!

I graduated as valedictorian of my high school in 2003, triple-majored in college (English, Spanish, and psychology) and graduated from Pitzer College in 2007, and earned my Master's degree in 2014. I studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain during 2005 and Merida, Mexico during 2006. I love learning and hope to inspire others to fall in love with learning as well!

I have two children of my own; my first was born in 2016 and my second was born in 2018. They keep life fun and me on my toes.

Classroom Environment

I am excited to work with your child and your family this school year. My classroom utilizes flexible seating, which means that children are welcome and encouraged to seat themselves wherever they will complete their best work - whether that is sitting on the floor on a pillow, stretched out on a yoga mat, leaning on a standing desk, or sitting in a traditional chair. Seats are not assigned, and children are encouraged to change where they are working based on their needs and the task at hand.

I am hoping to introduce yoga balls, armchair pillows, and stools during late fall/early winter of 2019. Keep your fingers crossed with me!
